A smart TV lets you stream YouTube, Netflix and more without a separate box. Here is how to choose one.

Pick the right size

Viewing distanceSuggested size
About 1.5 m (bedroom)32–43 inches
About 2 m43–50 inches
About 2.5 m or more55–65 inches

4K screens let you sit closer to a bigger TV without seeing pixels.

Resolution

  • HD / Full HD: fine for 32-inch TVs.
  • 4K UHD: standard from about 43 inches; sharper for streaming and gaming.

Smart TV systems

Most smart TVs sold in Ghana run one of these: Android TV or Google TV, Tizen (Samsung), webOS (LG) or VIDAA. Check that the apps you use are available, and that the TV supports screen mirroring from your phone.

Ports and sound

  • Count the HDMI ports you need for your decoder, console and soundbar.
  • Built-in TV speakers are often thin; a soundbar makes a big difference.

Before you pay

  1. Check for dead or stuck pixels on a plain white screen and a plain black screen.
  2. Test the remote and Wi-Fi connection.
  3. Ask about the warranty that applies.
  4. Plug the TV into a surge protector or stabilizer.
