Reliable internet depends on the connection you choose and how you spread it around the building.

Choose your connection

Best when
Fibre or broadband + Wi-Fi routerAvailable on your street
4G/5G MiFi or home routerGood mobile coverage, or you move around
StarlinkWeak mobile signal, remote areas, or as backup

Spread Wi-Fi through the building

Concrete walls block Wi-Fi. For multi-room or multi-storey homes, a mesh system or extra access points remove dead spots.

Keep internet up during dumsor

Put the router (and Starlink kit) on a UPS or power station. Routers use little power, so even a small backup lasts hours.

For small offices

Consider a second connection as backup, such as a MiFi or Starlink. See office network setup.

Security basics

  1. Change the default router password.
  2. Use WPA2 or WPA3 encryption.
  3. Create a guest network for visitors.
