A projector gives a huge picture for less than a giant TV, if you choose the right one.
Brightness is everything
| Room | What you need |
|---|---|
| Dark home cinema | Lower brightness is fine |
| Classroom or meeting room with some light | Higher brightness |
| Church hall or daytime events | High brightness, large venue models |
Brightness is measured in lumens. More light in the room needs more lumens.
Native resolution, not "supported"
Many cheap projectors say "supports 4K" but show a lower native resolution. Check the native figure.
Screen and placement
- A proper screen or smooth white wall gives the best picture.
- Check the throw distance: how far back the projector must sit for your screen size.
- Plan HDMI or wireless casting from the laptop.
For churches and schools
- Use a long HDMI cable or wireless presenter.
- Put the projector on a UPS so a power flicker doesn't interrupt the service or class.
- Pair with a good sound system or party speaker.
Projector or TV?
Projectors win on size per cedi; TVs win in bright rooms. See our smart TV guide.
