Best Laptops to Buy in Ghana in 2027

The best laptop to buy in Ghana in 2027 is one with at least 16GB of memory, an SSD, a processor that runs Windows 11 or a current version of macOS, and a battery that lasts through a typical outage. For most people that means a MacBook Air with an Apple M-series chip, or a business laptop such as an HP EliteBook, Dell Latitude or Lenovo ThinkPad from the last few generations. Avoid any laptop that cannot run Windows 11, any Intel-based MacBook, and anything with 8GB of memory that cannot be upgraded. This guide explains why those rules matter in 2027, then picks the right type of laptop for each kind of buyer.

Updated October 2026. We update this guide as new models arrive.

What changed for laptop buyers going into 2027?

Three changes make some laptops much better buys than others in 2027.

Windows 10 is no longer supported. Microsoft ended free support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. A Windows 10 laptop still works, but it no longer gets regular security updates, which matters for anyone who uses Mobile Money, online banking or work email on it. In 2027, buy only laptops that meet Windows 11's requirements: in practice, an Intel Core processor from the 8th generation or newer, or an AMD Ryzen 2000 series or newer, with a TPM 2.0 security chip. Most business laptops from 2018 onwards qualify.

Intel MacBooks have reached their last macOS version. Apple announced that macOS Tahoe (macOS 26, released in 2025) is the last major macOS release for Intel-based Macs. An Intel MacBook bought in 2027 will receive security updates for a while longer, but no new macOS versions. Every MacBook worth buying in 2027 has an Apple M-series chip (M1 or newer).

16GB is the new normal. Apple made 16GB the starting memory on MacBook Air models from late 2024, and Microsoft's Copilot+ PC standard requires 16GB. Software, browsers and video calls keep growing. An 8GB laptop bought in 2027 will feel slow sooner than one with 16GB.

Which laptop should you buy in 2027?

Best for most people: MacBook Air (M2 or newer)

A MacBook Air suits students, office workers, business owners and anyone whose work is documents, browsing, video calls and light creative work. It is light, silent, fast for years, and has the longest battery life of any laptop type, which matters a great deal during power cuts. Choose 16GB of memory where you can. Our guide on which MacBook to buy and our 2027 MacBook guide cover the choices in detail.

Best Windows laptop for work: a recent business laptop

An HP EliteBook, Dell Latitude or Lenovo ThinkPad from the last few generations is the Windows equivalent: durable, comfortable to type on all day, easy to repair, and often available UK used, which lets you buy a better model for your budget. Choose one with an Intel Core 11th generation or newer, or an AMD Ryzen 5000 or newer, and 16GB of memory. Read laptops for working professionals for which model suits which job.

Best for students: depends on the course

Most courses run well on a MacBook Air or a light business laptop. Engineering and architecture students usually need Windows with stronger graphics because software such as Revit and SolidWorks runs only on Windows. See best laptops for students in Ghana in 2027.

Best for video editing and design: MacBook Pro or a laptop with RTX graphics

Editors and designers need 16GB or more, a colour-accurate screen, and graphics power. A MacBook Pro keeps full speed on battery, which is a real advantage in Ghana. A Windows laptop with NVIDIA RTX graphics suits Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve users who prefer Windows. See laptops for video editing and laptops for graphic designers.

Best for working through outages: anything efficient with a healthy battery

If power cuts shape your day, efficiency matters more than raw speed. Apple silicon MacBooks lead, followed by recent business laptops with efficient chips. Read laptop battery life and power outages to work out how long a laptop will last before you buy it.

Best on a tight budget: a checked UK used business laptop

A UK used EliteBook, Latitude or ThinkPad with an 8th to 11th generation Intel processor, an SSD and a healthy battery is usually a better buy than a new entry-level consumer laptop at a similar price. It is built to last and easy to repair. Read UK used laptops explained and affordable laptops in Ghana.

Which laptops should you avoid in 2027?

  • Laptops that cannot run Windows 11. That includes most Intel 7th generation and older processors. They no longer get regular Windows security updates.
  • Intel MacBooks. Their last macOS version has been announced. Buy M1 or newer.
  • Laptops with a hard disk (HDD) instead of an SSD. They are slow to start and slow to open apps. An SSD is not optional in 2027.
  • 4GB of memory. Windows 11 runs on it, but barely. Avoid.
  • 8GB that cannot be upgraded, unless your use is very light. Many thin laptops have memory soldered to the board.
  • Gaming laptops for non-gaming work. They are heavy, loud and drain their batteries quickly.
  • Used laptops still locked to a company. A laptop that asks you to sign in to an organisation during setup can be locked remotely by that company.

A worked example: will a 2027 laptop last until 2031?

Say you buy a laptop in early 2027 and want it to last four years. Check three things.

  1. Software support. A MacBook with an M-series chip, or a Windows laptop that meets Windows 11's requirements, should keep receiving updates through most of that period. Newer chips give a longer runway than older ones.
  2. Memory. 16GB leaves room for four years of growing software; 8GB often does not.
  3. Battery. A new laptop battery used one charge cycle per working day reaches about 900 to 1,000 cycles in four years. Apple rates MacBook batteries to keep about 80% capacity at 1,000 cycles, so a new MacBook should finish the four years with a usable battery. On a used business laptop, plan for one battery replacement in that time, which is a routine repair.

A laptop that passes all three checks is a sensible 2027 purchase. One that fails any of them is a short-term buy, which can still be fine if the price reflects it.

Brand new or UK used in 2027?

Brand new gives you the longest life, a full battery and no history to check. It is the simplest choice for a MacBook Air or anyone who wants the newest chip.

UK used gives you a higher-quality model for your budget, especially in business laptops. The checks matter: battery health, no BIOS password, no company management, and the configuration you paid for. At MachineWura every pre-owned device passes a 30-point inspection with at least 85% battery health before it is listed. Our step-by-step guide on how to check a used laptop explains each test.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best laptop to buy in 2027?

For most people, a MacBook Air with an M-series chip and 16GB of memory, or a recent business laptop such as an EliteBook, Latitude or ThinkPad with 16GB. Choose by your work, software and budget.

Is 8GB of RAM enough in 2027?

For light use such as documents and browsing, yes. For multitasking, video calls with many browser tabs, design, coding or editing, choose 16GB.

Should I still buy a Windows 10 laptop?

Only if it can be upgraded to Windows 11. Windows 10 support ended in October 2025, so a laptop stuck on it no longer gets regular security updates.

Is an Intel MacBook still a good buy?

No. Apple has said macOS Tahoe is the last major macOS version for Intel Macs. Choose a MacBook with an M1 chip or newer.

Are UK used laptops still worth buying in 2027?

Yes, if they meet Windows 11's requirements and pass proper checks. A recent UK used business laptop often outlasts a new budget consumer laptop.

When do new laptops usually launch?

Windows laptop makers announce many new models around January each year, and Apple releases MacBooks at different times through the year. Older models often remain good buys after a launch.
